Waka Racing has got off to a flyer of a start on the World Match Race Tour. Firstly winning the opening event in Germany and then flying straight to Korea to back it up with a solid 3rd place at the Korea Match Cup.
Match Race Germany was particularly special for the team as this was the teams first ever WMRT event victory and the team was not able to do any match race training leading up to the regatta. Unfortunately the boys were not able to celebrate this moment as they had to jump straight on a 3 hour bus to Munich Airport and fly to Korea, where the next event started the following day.
Korea was another promising regatta for the team. After the qualifying round robin, Waka Racing topped the table winning 9 races and losing only 2. They carried their form through to the Semi-Finals where they narrowly lost to eventual event winner, Bjorn Hansen going down fighting all the way with a score line 3 - 2. After the disappointment of getting knocked out the boys picked themselves up and claimed valuable tour points by claiming 3rd from Torvar Mirsky in the 3rd/4th playoff.
Waka Racing will take a lot of confidence from these first two events as they feel there is still a lot of room for improvement but they are definitely on the right track and are excited about the next challenge... Match Cup Sweden!
