If one word could describe Waka Racing’s preparation for the upcoming World Match Racing Tour (WMRT), ‘busy’ would be it! All of the crew members have been almost non-stop training and competing in different sailing events around the globe since March.

Phil, Garth, James, and Adam have been involved with the Chinese America’s Cup Team racing on the AC45, Extreme 40, and M2 classes. While Sam has been heavily involved with a top Soto 40 campaign racing up in Europe.

The flipside of this is that the team hasn’t been able to do any match race training as a complete crew leading up to 2012 WMRT season opener in Germany. However luckily the way the scoring system works in 2012, Match Race Germany is not one of the events Waka Racing picked on their tour card to count towards the overall season championship.

The team has as been able to gain entry as a wild card and is using the event more to get their head back into mono-hull match racing. In preparation for the Korea Match Cup, which will be the first event that counts towards the overall championship for the team.

In Germany the crew line up will be slightly different with Nick Catley coming in to take over the Pit position. However the rest of the line up will be familiar, consisting:

Skipper: Phil Robertson

Main/ Tactics: Garth Ellingham

Trim: James Williamson

Bow: Adam Martin

Conditions for the event are expected to be extremely light, which should be very challenging as the yachts used to race in are a very heavy 40 foot design.

Racing starts on the 24th of May with qualifying rounds planned to kick off at 9am local time. Stay tunned to and for latest results.

A special thanks and welcome back to our great sponsors:
