Breeze on at the bottom mark
The breeze came back today and looks like it might be here to stay. We went into the day sitting 2nd in our pool but needed to win two out of our three races to guarantee us a place in the top 8. A tough ask with the hardest opponents to race.
Mirsky was first up and we ended up trying to sink the old IOD's in the pre start. With three crashes, penalties were flying around. We got the wrong end of the stick and ended up with two, losing the race from there.
Race two was against Peter Gilmour and we changed our fortunes by pushing him over the line and taking the early lead. This lead evaporated in the shifty and puffy conditions. He then sailed a few good shifts at the top to pass us and never looked back. A disappointing loss as we didn't sail to our full potential.
We managed to turn this all around by beating former winner Berntsson from Sweden in the last race. Another well executed maneuver in the final up wind gave us the lead and Berntsson a penalty. A win that proved to be vital.
With four wins and three losses we were tied for 2nd spot, which we won on count back over Canfield and Berntsson. A great result and automatic entry into the Quarter Finals.
A great day for us and now an even bigger day tomorrow in Do or Die fashion.
